The Nile Basin States have today 14th of May 2010 opened the Agreement on the Nile River Basin Cooperative Framework for signature for a period of one year until 13th May 2011. H.E. Asfaw Dingamo, Minister of Water Resources of Ethiopia (http://www.nilebasin.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=114); Hon. Ambassador Stanislas Kamanzi, Minister of Lands and Water Management of Rwanda (http://www.nilebasin.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=114); Hon. Prof. Mark James Mwandosya, Minister of Water and Irrigation of Tanzania (http://www.nilebasin.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=114); and Hon. Isaac Isanga Musumba, Minister of Foreign Affairs (Regional Cooperation) of Uganda (http://www.nilebasin.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=114) who signed the Agreement immediately after the opening, all described the ceremony as a land mark event.

Members also noted the increased country commitment towards the investments.

In his opening statement, the chairperson of the Nile Council of Ministers (NILE-COM (http://www.nilebasin.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=30&Itemid=77)) who is also Egypt (http://www.nilebasin.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=114)’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Nasr El-Din Allam, provided an overview of the outcome of the extra-ordinary NILE-COM (http://www.nilebasin.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=30&Itemid=77) meeting held on 13 April 2010 in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt (http://www.nilebasin.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=114). He also noted the positive impact of NBI and its improving image both within the region and worldwide. “The NBI is mentioned in several arenas as a model for regional cooperation and integration”, H.E. Allam added. He thanked the Development Partners for their continued support and excellent technical guidance to NBI.

Technical Advisory Committe & Development Partners to Meet in Entebbe The 30th meeting of the Nile Technical Advisory Committee (NILE-TAC (http://www.nilebasin.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=30&Itemid=77)) is scheduled to take place on Monday 26 April 2010, at the Lake Victoria Hotel in Entebbe, Uganda (http://www.nilebasin.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=114).

Among other things, the NILE-TAC (http://www.nilebasin.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=30&Itemid=77) which provides technical guidance and direction to the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) as well as offer advice to members of the Nile Council of Ministers (NILE-COM (http://www.nilebasin.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=30&Itemid=77)), will discuss progress of NBI’s programs and project activities including the Institutional Strengthening Project (ISP) implementation and the Subsidiary Action Programs (Eastern Nile and Nile Equatorial Lakes) investment projects. The meeting will also discuss resource mobilization and preparation of NBI’s investments as well as coordination of NBI at national level.
